No I haven't been sucked up into a jam jar (or some days it feels like) but rather been flying high (and low), preparing for the yet another adventure.
Yes STRAB or the Southern Rhyme and Blues festival is almost upon us with less than 20 days in counting. If you still haven't got tickets for this fair music filled weekend in Mozambique then today is your last day you get your tickets! Bookings closes tomorrow (10 May) and you contact them via their website on http://www.strab.co.za/ I know there is only general camping left and there is pretty informational guide for download that gives you uhm the down load that is STRAB. Everything is covered from road maps, roads to take, border control, how much alcohol and cigarettes you allowed to take with etc. Just if you not from the Lowveld go see your doc about some Malaria pills and make sure you insurance is up to date.
I've been a social butterfly as they would say since the last gig I blog about. The only thing is with this social events it was all private parties and what happened there ended up on Facebook *evilgrin* I can just say it was a nice tumble down the rabbit hole with some exceptional wines, music and midnight adventures. Once again thanks to my friends who all had a blast with me and the one who created it, Christine.
If you were at Maleneke just outside Nelspruit for the J4B gig where locals Latte Funk played well done. I could not attend this gig since well money is strap tightly at the bank manager. Also if you are an amateur golfer and think you got what it takes then why not try to the Jock Golf Tournament that kicked off yesterday (Sunday) and will be running this whole week. I will be working with some of my fellow A-Team members and it's usually something to see from about Wednesday night. It will be my uhmm... not sure what number of Jock but I can tell it's a great party, great music and entertainment.
Also if I get asked one more freaking time the following question: "Where are The Parlotones here again?" then take yourself and kick your own ass. The guys (from what saw in Kahn tweets) is that running around Europe making SA proud. I'm sure that the Tones don't always want to see Blue Moon that often in their tour schedule. So please Nelspartans get an education, go to Look & Listen awesome new store in Riverside Mall and go find good bands. aKING got a brand new album out and it is kicking ass on the Modern Rock Charts, Heuwels Fantasties and Die Tuindewergies are sounding good these days as well. You can also pick up Flash Republic last album which was also nominated for SAMA's. And thanks again to every single person who bought Prime Circle "Jekyll and Hyde" that went Platinum.
Really we have so much talent in the country and when the Tones move overseas for their music who are going to make a god like offers to? Open your ears a little more for new talent even if they are around for many shows, make a plan and come up to the Moon (or Casterbridge heard a lovely rumor there as well watch this space) with a line up like Jack Parow, Heuwels, Glaskas and aKING.
I had a discussion with my sister in law who loves her music as well. She introduced me to Cindy Lauper, her all time favourite. She said that they not big on the Afrikaans music scene naming the usual stars like Steve, Dozi, Amor etc when I played her Heuwels from my humble little iPod she almost didn't believe it was Afrikaans. Then I went as far as playing her Jack Parow "Tussen Stasies" at first I think you see Jack and go "Ag nee man" but that song I feel puts him in a total different light. Sure he buys his broeks at PEP stores, needs a hair cut and razor but hey the man can rap in Afrikaans and he is original not like Snotkop (sorry dude jy het oorspronklik eers ge-kwatio). It's really just opening other minds to Afrikaans rock, original music that was written by the band or just one (sometimes two) within the band.
Like me I was never a fan of Fokoffpolisiekar, I felt that Francois couldn't sing on stage but they were young. Out of that band came two more, aKING and Van Coke Kartel, both kicking ass on the MK charts and both good on stage. Fans don't care they can dans, spring en sing onder die straatlig. I got their downloads on my iPod (explains a high credit card then) but it takes good while to get use to Afrikaans rock. For me of course I was introduced to Johannes Kerkorrel, Valiant Swart and Koos Kombuis at age 10, I remember guys like KOBUS! jumping up and down on the Blue Moon stage when I was in Matric. So for me the transformation wasn't too big but it took a while especially Jack Parow. When I actually saw him live, how he carries the songs, how professional he was behind stage and his love of fans (and Jaagmymeester) I actually liked his music. Having breakfast the next morning with them was just a bonus.
Go back to some previous blogs to get the link to some of the songs mentioned and if you want some legal down loads to good music why not try Load The Show they even have No One's Arc first album "A shot in the dark up there"
That's all from me folks, get twitter for my countdown to STRAB!
Peace&Love
