Die Heuwels Fantasies - Alles Wat Mal |
Blue Moon Picnic in the Gardens presents
live at the Nelspruit Botanical Garden
on Sunday 28 April 2013
A little history on Die Heuwels Fantasties (DHF)....
A few years ago after Fokofpolisiekar 3 bands emerge out the
product namely Van Coke Kartel, aKING and DHF. DHF is an electronic rock band
from Bellville, Cape Town. Pierre Greeff
(lead vocals/guitar), Hunter Kennedy (bass/backing vocals), Philip Erasmus
(drums) and Fred den Hartog (lead guitar/backing vocals) make up DHF. They
formed in 2007 and released their debut self-title album in May 2009 which had
contributions from musicians like Francois van Coke (FOP and VCK), Jack Parow
and Laudo Liebenberg (aKING), which went Gold and was the 3rd album release on
Pierre and Hunter record label Supra Families.
This album broke through a path not only in the Afrikaans
music genre but also to the rest of the South African music market. Their
single "Vinger Alleen" spent weeks at the #1 position on campus radio
stations which earned them a MK Award in 2009 for Best Video and all of this
was without playing a single gig. Their limited-release USB flash drive EP,
‘Pille Vir Kersfees’ (fashioned to look like a large pill capsule), sold out
within weeks, other hits from this album includes “Die Vraagstuk” with Jack
Parow; “Sonrotse” with Francois van Coke; “Klein Tambotieboom” and "Leja"
In March 2011 they released their second album "Wilderas die Wildtuin” which feature new drummer Philip Erasmus behind the kit. This was album came after their song "Doodgewone Aand" featured in the Bakgat 2 movie. The
album like the first also feature a whole lot of collaborations with different
musicians but also some slow melodic songs like “Wonder bo Wonder”. This album
was different from the first album but “Heel Te Mal” maintained the band’s
electro rock genre. Popular songs off the album includes “Buitenste Ruim” and “Wilderas die Wildtuin”. They also played at
Innibos Festival in 2011 while still touring with “Wilder as die Wildtuin”.
A special deluxe CD was released later on their tour with
the second album which held a different cover, different designs and of course
never heard before songs like “Onbeplan” which was in capella form. The band
also traveled to Nieu Zeeland during the Rugby World Cup in 2011 to not only
tour the country but also show support to the Springboks where they defended
their World Cup title. You can watch a bit of the video here.

October 2012 they released their 3rd album “Alles Wat Mal Is” which according to us is one of our favourite DHF album, the first single
“Die Beloofde Land” had a teaser release on the band Sound Cloud page which
have to date over 14 947 plays.
“Alles Wat Mal” also won the band 2 Ghoema awards for Best Group and Best Pop Album
(Group) in 2013, their video “Verraad Plaas” which in a 4 part series was
nominated for Best Video at the MK Awards (VCK won the category). The second
single “Rofstoeigreep” which has a Tropical Heat theme was shot at the exclusive
Club Mykonos in Langebaan Western Cape.
Pierre Greeff and the boys have collaborated with other
artists like JR ft Jack Parow on the song “The Show Goes On” and "Ek Joke Net", “Our Heritage” ft The Soweto Gospel Choir, JR and HHP – song was realest for the ‘National Braai Day’ on 24
September 2012 which became a summer anthem. They also provided music for the
electronic pop group Thieve which is signed to the Supra Families label and was
produced and mixed by DHF. Currently DHF is on tour with the indie group, The Black Handed Kites, playing at all the high schools across the country.
DHF shows are always a high energy, do not stand still for a
minute kind of band. They are Afrikaans
but their music reaches out to all South Africans. From young till old Die Heuwels Fantasties show will bring more than just your money worth, they going
to make fans for life.
