Yip no rock song title today only dance, well since this past weekend of mine was transformed the usual rock filled events to dance filled.
As you read before DrinkToCosta (means drink on cost price not DJ Costa) parties kicked off on Friday night at Oewersig Hall. With the big green warnings at the entry gate to watch out of crocodiles and hippos I think it should have been a warning more for the cheap prices in vodka, brandy, whisky and beer. But never the less Anne Marie and I arrived, she an half hour late for work, me not working for a change, whoopie. Oom Niel supported a new hairstyle, Tina Turner would be jealous and he turned 3 different colours during the night. No "kat skietery" but in wigs, see the party dress code was a touch/dash of pink. His hair went from Tina Turner mullet to lime green to shocking pink. There were some Hawaii hula grass skirts (in pink of course - worn by one of our Blue Moon runners), Blue Moon t-shirts and candle light.
After paying like 15 bucks for a double vodka and coke I set off to have a chat with Anna Mart while we waited for the mighty crowd as expected. Besides the sudden winter that arrived in Nelsparta in a week and you freeze your ass off it was quite. But awesome to catch up with Anna Mart without interruption of any kind. Anyway so between the gate, the bar and the dance floor Ronald aka Josè and I had discover dance music. After we nearly beat Oom Niel up for playing Justin Bieber he found some tunes to which we could actually jump around to. Since we are metal heads and rockers we forgot how we did in 90's during our school "sokkies" (social dance) days. The strobe light makes everything move slower (or was the Smirnoff influence?) and pop a few balloons (I'm serious no cherries) and play with glow sticks.
Josè and I left for stop at the garage for cigarettes and a long chat about life before returning to the near freezing hall which got a few more people on the dance floor and the jealous owner of another club not mentioned trying to “persuade” the few animals over to his cage. I also had a discussion with Sunè and her friend about bands, how to get famous rock stars like Ross Learmonth to sign your sneakers and making them jealous of the possibility trip to STRAB in May. At I called it quits, asked for a lift to McDonald's (eish eina) and home.
Saturday morning I was shaking like the leaf I am after having a white spirit party. Spending time at an internet shop uploading a YouTube video (which in the end took 2 hours to upload) and being bored with a babelas, I set out to organise the pre-organised date with Mimi. After being 10 minutes late we met up at Pappas with two of her friends, Nati and Dineo. Oom Niel telephoned me over to the second DrinkToCosta party if I bring people with me its gratis entry, wicked the 4 of us set off to Oewerwonderland.
Yet again the runners at Blue Moon proofed to me they pay no attention at all to what we do behind the legend bar. Instead of getting a double vodka and coke I got a double vodka and dry lemon. Mimi got a double whisky and coke *cough medicine mixture*...ai toggie but at least they got it right after the Oom barked a bit. I supported the Moon Arc t-shirt wearing NOA/Prime Circle groupies of the kitchen by buying an awesomely fresh chicken burger. Thanks to Sunè and her "team" for making them they were lekker.
Mimi and Dineo got into the wig parade and the photos are surfing around the social network. Even I turned into a green hair monster (at least not green eyed) and did a pose with a rock starlet. But it was colder than the previous night and we spend most of the time inside. I must say we went from dance party to stand up comedian show down between myself, Anne Marie and Josè at the gate in front a crowd of 6 telling email jokes. After that it was refreshing drinks outside, in the cold, with out a fire just talking crap as always. We jammed to Tidal Waves (welcome back as well from the USA guys), Die Tuindwergies (Mimi is a huge fan) and Jack Parow! Yes you read right, Jack made it on the speakers. Even a dark adventure down to the Nels river was taken. I promise that all clothing was kept on and no hippos were hurt during this adventure and no photos was taken keeping to A –Team rules of dark adventures. At I finally arrive home, took a warm shower to defrost before slipping in bed.
Sunday of course was Sol and Fanie Sunday sessions at Pappas. Without my partner(s) in crime, Minette or Mimi, I end up with a few regulars of Blue Moon and Dean...if you don't Dean then get to know him - he is like the Chuck Norris of Nelsparta (or so I heard...) Between the pizza, chips and Tabasco sauce one BM'er decided since he and his girl have the Monday off we all must have a Jose Cuervo. Now if you know me well enough you will know I don't do the tequila thing. It comes from having too much with Minette in White River years ago, I think a part of my liver are still living there...wondering how it's doing? But I survived the tequila since I had so much Tabasco on my chips. Then the round of Jaagmymeester (aka Oom Jaggie) appeared and I can't drink it at all...I can serve it but that stuff makes me kat siek. So another round of Jose showed up and despite my protest in my mind I had the second one...eish. I hid my last round of Oom Jaggie and got home just after ...Life of a rocker, drinking tequila on a Sunday. There must be something wrong with me today since I don't have a hangover. I'm having chips again this coming Sunday you more than welcome join me.
Getting back to our other locals, welcome back No One's Arc. From what I saw being said on Facebook it sounds like it was quite the success they excepted from the Western Cape . Once again if you were either at RAKA, Stellies or Mercury Live last week thanks from Nelsparta as well for supporting our boys. If you are travelling down to SplasyFen this year in KZN then please support the full NOA band on the Saturday afternoon of the fest.
Then I missed Piksteel playing at Tom's Hut that is out on the N4 towards Malelane/Komatipoort. Sounds like it was a "p(u)ik" performance from the guys and the patrons. Well done to the few Nelspartans that were there supporting! There is some photo's surfing around the social networks keep an eye out for it.
If you have any comments, stories, videos, photos or even if you are in the Lowveld area your band/group/whatever are doing gig no matter how small or big you can drop me a mail on themusicfan@webmail.co.za and I shall post it on here. Also I will be tweeting events happenings under the blog twitter account which is @STMFan on Twitter.
My general feeling about the dance weekend, it was quite fun. Spending time with friends is always awesome and good for the soul. It might not always be the ones you want but there is always then new friends coming in and be apart of your wonderland. Cheers to Oom Niel and Anna Mart for the organising of the DrinkToCosta parties and cheers to everyone who attended.
Peace & Love
