What can a Lowvelder tell you about
Innibos? It is the
biggest event on our calendar, but it’s also a crazy fever that hits the town,
and everyone ends up spending days at work hung over after a night of mid week
partying on the festival grounds and around town. Many months of preparation go
into hosting one of the country’s biggest festivals and here it is on our
doorstep.
For a music fan (a rocker of note) the only stage out of the
7 worth seeing is the
MK Kliphard Stage. Here is an opportunity to watch bands
that you might not normally see, unless, like me you attend music festivals
like
STRAB,
Up The Creek or
Oppikoppi, or if you regularly venture down to Jozi,
Pretoria or the Western-Cape.
With so many good people in the Lowveld who are still scared
of the
Blue Moon road or intimidated by a little bit of good music, then let me
tell you: don’t knock down the MK stage before you have at least experienced it.
I understand that South African music may not be everyone’s cup of tea, (unlike
us at STM) but there are bands and solo
artists performing at the MK Stage this year that might tempt you to go down to
your local music store to buy their music.

Thursday night 27 June: Monday Night Mavericks, The Centrefolds, Die Skynmaagde, SAARKIE, Jan Blohm and Moses Metro Man
The lovely girls from
SAARKIE are here to kick ass and
veteran
Jan Blohm can‘t be missed. He will perform songs from his new
Huisgenoot Tempo
nominated album “Ruby”. The Monday Night Mavericks are another upcoming
CMDA
band. From what I saw on YouTube,
The Centrefolds will have us swinging to
their tunes.
Moses Metro Man is another MK favourite but I have yet to see them
live along with
Die Skynmaagde.

Friday night will be a big one, not only on the main
festival grounds but because of the fantastic line up on the MK stage.
The Sky is
a group of youngsters and they are no strangers to Nelspruit.
ISO on the other
hand is unknown in the high-school circles. Well kids, now is you opportunity
to see what you have been missing out on. They have plenty of radio air play
and they are part of
MK’s Bestemming series on YouTube.
One Crown can’t be
missed by alternative fans and as for
Cortina Whiplash, well let’s see what these
ladies dish up for us.

The Black Cat Bones |
Any follower of this blog would know that
the Black Cat Bones are the best live act in SA (as voted for by the public for the MK
Awards) and if you have not seen them live you have been living under a rock.
aKING needs no introduction and it’s been a long time since we last saw them in
the Lowveld. I for one will be right up front singing along to their hits
“Jezebel”,
“Against All Odds” and
“You and I”.
If you miss Saturday night then you should go home and cry by
your mama because this is serious business. 2 of the 6 bands have been to
Nelspruit this year already.
VCK and
Jack Parow are freshly back from touring
the Netherlands (with Bittereinder and Luna Paige).
Die Heuwels Fantasties, a
band with loads of talent and hits, have just released their live DVD and received
3 Huisgenoot Tempo Nominations. It’s
One Crown’s 2nd round on the MK stage.
Lesse op Vrydae I can’t say anything about because I couldn’t find anything on them
online (is that good?).
Minutes of Mercy is for the real hardcore heavy rocker.
They play such a fine line between metal and hard rock, but they impressed the
crowd at last year’s Innibos.
Van Coke Kartel is just an awesome band, they
visited us not so long ago and if you missed their show you can read up on
ourreview here and then go see them live. You’ll be singing along to all their
songs.

Jack Parow gets a special mention because his lyrical
rapping is deep yet humourous. Yes,
die
tannies kan nou maar weer praat. I won’t ask him to sing happy birthday to
my grandmother but I will support him. Rapping is just another art form but if
you don’t like swear words don’t come to his show. Jack is a lot of things, but
a hard worker is what he is and in the past he has collaborated with
VCK,
DHF
just to mention two. His fans come in all shapes and sizes too. From guys in
lang pette en Pep stores broeke, girls
met
groot kannone and brandy drinkers
in leopard print shirts. Even this
humble rocker can tell you that there is some Parow on her iPod’s. Whatever the
case might be, I do recommend his show. Like I said though if you don’t like
the @#$%* words that are being used then just pretend you didn’t hear them.

The MK Kliphard stage is at a new location this year (still
on the festival grounds). The map shows that it’s at the top netball courts
close to the hockey field. So no wellies needed this year and again baie geraas kan gemaak word. You’ll find
me and some of my team (I hope) in front of the stage; you can recognise me by
the band shirt I’ll be wearing. There might be a bottle of wine in my jacket pocket
as back up, just in case.
